In the autumn of 2009 a first-ever Piobaireachd Workshop was given in Denmark.
Not only was this a first for Denmark but it was the first time ever that six Danish pipers had played a Piobaireachd in concert.
In looking at the background of this session it is important to know that none of the six pipers had played Piobaireachd before.
After spending the morning discussing the genre as well as the background to the tune the afternoon was spent going through the tune using the unique EASY METHOD.
A one-hour session on practice chanters was followed by, firstly pipers playing the tune in pairs on pipes, and then the whole group together, also on pipes.
One of the participants filmed this for YouTube (which is shown here).
The result was never meant to be an exercise in either perfectly pitched pipes nor gold medal winning playing.
Instead it was what it was - the result of a one hour session on practice chanters.
Chanters were deliberately not re-pitched so as to avoid tampering with instruments which were set for different band playing.
The target for the group instruction was to illustrate that Piobaireachd is ‘just music’.
Judge the result for yourself.
